Thank you. I concur that Gabriel Jones of Campbell County is the right man. His occupation is listed as "Phis" which I take to be Physician. He is also in the 1850 Campbell census as clerk and the 1870 census as Physician. In the 1880 census he is in Orange County, Florida: G. L. Jones, 49, Physician, born Ga. In the 1840 census he was Male age 5-10 in the household of Dabney P. Jones of Coweta County, Georgia.

Those census listings outline the middle of his life. I just haven't been able to pin down the beginning and the end. I can't find him 1900, so he may have died before then.

There is a grave for Dr. Jones, CSA, in Apopka, Florida that may be his, but there are no dates on the stone.
