*** Special Orders No. . . . dated Richmond, Jan'y 11, 1865 direct that "Ten of the eleven companies comprising the organization known in the Army of Tennessee as the 4th Georgia Cavalry (formed upon the basis of the 23rd Geo. Battalion) will constitute the 12th Reg't Geo. Cav'y to take effect from the 30th Jan'y, 1863, the date of the organization effected under the orders of Gen. Bragg. The eleventh company will be the subject of assignment to some Geo. Batt'n or other organization to be designated hereafter.
