Re: Wyatt Harper
In Response To: Wyatt Harper ()

Leslie --

Two different men named Wyatt Harper served in Confederate commands from Georgia. Wyatt Harper from Bryan County GA served in McAllister's Hardwick Mounted Rifles, which later became Co H, 7th Georgia Cavalry. He appears on the 1870 census for Bryan County and so survived the war. Wyatt A. Harper lived in Pike County GA in 1850 and enlisted at Newnan GA, July 20, 1863. Captured six weeks later in DeKalb County AL, he died of meningitis at Rock Island IL, Apr. 28, 1864.

We always advise against matching a name to a service record, even when the state of residence is known. More than one man using the same name and sometimes the same initials can often lived in the same state. That makes this practice inaccurate and misleading.

Which one is "your" Wyatt Harper?
