Re: Echols' Artillery
In Response To: Echols' Artillery ()

My Great Great Grandfather (James Butler Johnson-aka J.B. Johnson) was in the Echol's Artillery. There is a book called "This They Remembered" written by Gussie Reese in 1965. This book tells the history of the four companies from Oglethorpe County in the WTBS.

These companies consisted of The Gilmer Blues, The Oglethorpe Rifles, The Tom Cobb Infantry, and the Echols Artillery. The book is not indexed, but I didn't find a Samuel Wood(s) listed in the Echols Artillery or any of the other companies listed above. The author abbreviated most first and middle names (as they did on the monument on the Oglethorpe County Courthouse lawn.) There is a listing for a Private W.B.J. Wood . He is listed as deceased at the last reunion of the Echols Artillery held on May 30, 1906.
