Re: Killed at Chickamauga - Where buried?

Here is an update from the saga of my informant in Cleveland, Tenn.

Where is the most likely burial location(s) of a private of the 5th Georgia Infantry (CS), killed in the Brock field area, September 19th at Chickamauga?

......

There are two Confederate Cemeterys in Chattanooga and also one in Dalton. The Dalton cemetery was mostly unknown
until the 70's until a list was found, I have a book that lists the now known. I will check it out.
Not sure where to get a list of the Chattanooga, I know one is mostly unknown. I will check with a couple of Chatt UDC
chapters.

Here is a list of those known buried at Chattanooga Confederate Cemetery.

.....

There is only one marked grave on the Chickamauga Military grounds and it is a local man.
Many of the dead were carried to Kennesaw for burial in the Confederate cemetery there so that is another possibility. Also many of the men
who were buried in the Chattanooga Confederate cemetery were buried on the river bank with wooden crosses so of course no way to know who they are now.

.....

There are only three Ga 5th listed as buried at Dalton West Hills Confederate Cemetery.

Corp. Simeon S. Hay, Col B
[Captured at Strasburg Oct. 19, 1864, file contains War Dept. correspondence with Ga. Pension Board, dtd. 4/17/15]

Jasper G. Shurley, Co. D
[He died on 11/3/1862 at Dalton, GA Hospital]

Aubert H. Smoot, Co K & Co B 2nd Bt GA S Shooters
[He died on 11/8/1862 at Dalton, GA]

Do you have any idea who the person is searching for?
