Sorry for the delay in getting back to you; I was out of town for a family
funeral.
You are correct that the burials were moved to Marietta. Initially all the
dead at Chickamauga were buried on the battlefield to avoid the spread of
disease from decaying bodies. Later, General George Thomas authorized the
creation of the national cemetery in Chattanooga and all the Union
casualties were moved there. The Confederate casualties were later
disinterred from Chickamauga and moved to Marietta. I'm not sure how well
marked the tombstones are in Marietta, but if one was to find a casualty
from Brock Field, it would likely be there. However, depending on where the
soldier from the 5th GA lived before the war, his family might have
collected the body and taken it home.
