The Georgia in the Civil War Message Board

Re: 9th Georgia Light Artillery

I had the opportunity to walk the trenches and revetments where the 9th Georgia did most of their fighting. Chaffin's Farm or Chaffin's Bluff as it is sometimes called, located on the East Side of the James River between Petersburg and Richmond. None of the 9th Georgia names were listed on the Parole list at the Appomattox Surrender. It is speculated that once those posted there heard Lee had formally surrendered, they just packed up what they had and went home. Appomattox was on the West side of the James River. If anyone knows for sure what happened, please let me know.
