Alfred Bishop, 1st Sergeant, Capt. Spriggs' Company (Gilmer Battalion, Georgia, Major D. M. West commanding,* joined for duty and enrolled July 17, 1863 at Eligay by Capt. E. M. Spriggs for six months, value of horse $475, mustered in August 1, 1863, no further records

Capt. E. M. Spriggs' Company, Gilmer Battalion, Georgia, commanded by Major D. M. West, for local defence, to serve in the north part of Georgia called and known as Cherokee Georgia. Accepted into the service of the Confederate States August 1, 1863 for the term of six months

* This company was also known as Company G, 16th Battalion Georgia Cavalry, Georgia State Guards

Gilmer Battalion Maj. D. M. West
This company subsequently became Co. I, Infantry Battalion, Cherokee Legion. Although this company is designated Co. A, 16th Battalion Georgia Cavalry, State Guards, it apparently never actually served as such.
