I just came across a posting online for a army manual; it's signed by Colonel Neal and Surgeon Battey of the 19th Georgia Infantry.

I was wondering why the surgeons named appeared in the manual? I was thinking that the surgeon kept the manual after the death of Colonel Neal in 1865(as a token)

My question, was Surgeon Robert Battey, still with the regiment at the time of Neal's death?
