Battey was transferred Nov 62, succeeded by Saml. P. Johnson as surgeon. As you know, Neal died in March 65. Neal was promoted to colonel Aug 63, so if he signed the book as a colonel it was probably after that point, and after Battey's transfer from the regiment. Maybe it was Battey's manual first.
