On further thought, I'm guessing when the bodies where uncovered in 1930 it would have been difficult to id them as North or South. They may be now buried as unknown as union soldiers in Vicksburg.

I agree, it is sad that so many are just left buried in mass graves, lost somewhere around champion hill.
