My wife Beverly Hersey Binfield and I have visited the cemetery in Savannah and found no grave for William R. Hersey. I also checked the online list of those buried at Richmond with no luck. We feel that he is in an "unknown" grave or possibly still on the battlefield. Due to the July heat the bodies would decompose quickly and since he died in "Enemy territory" his remains are known only to God.
