Unfortunately the Georgia Militia can be a mind boggling experience to research. I've only met a very few people who could even begin to go down that rabbit hole. The best I can do if give you my best guess as to what unit he was in.

You mentioned the 36th and the 37th Regiment. I'm going with the best candidate which would be the 37th.

Right above Harris County is Troup county. If he lived in Harris County not too far from Troup then it would not be unusual for him to join a Troup County unit.

You probably won't find much information on this unit as I had to construct it from scratch from various sources.

My best guess is he was in the "Troup County Georgia Militia, 1ST Company"
