To clarify the narrative it's helpful to note that the Mobile & Ohio rail line ended at Mobile. Another line began on the opposite side of the bay at Tensaw, Ala., which went to Pollard on the Florida line. Once at Montgomery this rail line came to another temporary end. Soldiers would have had to walk across toward to the western terminus of the West Point Railroad. From this point rail transportation would have been uninterrupted to Atlanta.
