Not to confuse you but it shows Company B 29TH Georgia Regiment being from Berrien and Thomas County which is way down in South Georgia.

This site seems to be in favor of him being from Franklin County and the church was mad at him for getting drunk. But that was in 1835. So if he were 38 years old on the 1850 census then he would have been 22 years old in 1835?

Thornton presented a letter to the church written by the
request of Cloud's Creek to him by Br. Butler Stamps,
specifying and preferring charges against Br. Larkin Looney
for making false statements relative to his debts in
Oglethorpe County, also for getting drunk. Moved and
seconded that the church take up the case of Br. Larkin
Looney and after investigation he was unanimously excluded
from the fellowship of the church.
