Well, it's a round-about story, but here goes. I started doing research on my ancestors. My great grandfather bought 160 acres from Alexander George McCormick and his wife Catherine Bell in 1878. I was curious as to who he was and if he was a C/W vet. Did some digging and he was in the 5th Partisans as a sergeant in Co. A. He later served as a judge in Liberty County and as mayor for two terms. He owned a livery and a hotel and raised funds to build the Liberty bridge. The more I read about McCormick the more I wanted to know about him and his Confederate service. I was asked to do a short talk on McCormick for the local SCV chapter. So far, no pictures of Alex, but I'm still snooping around. I'd like to get a copy of John C.Rigdon's Historical Sketch of Martin's 5th so if you know of a copy for sale, give me a shout.
