Please help locate this Shilo Trading Post on the Canadian River.

Col. James Bourland wrote the following letter that is between the rows of asterisks. ..I know that Bourland kept scouts all along the Canadian Rivers, esp. the South Canadian River west of the Wichita Agency in the now Anadarko OK area.

Capt. J.B. Anderson of Co l of Bourland's Regt was stationed at Buffalo Springs near now Windhorst, Clay Co TX.

COLONEL [Lt-Col. James Buckner Barry, TST Commander, Fort Belknap, Young Co TX]:

I am in receipt of a communication from Gen. [H.E.] McCulloch. He directs me to keep scouts out, also
wishes me to give notice to you to keep scouts as far out as you can. I will send men out on __ (torn)
Wichataws [Wichita Mountains]. I have scouts __ Arbuckle Mountains. .... [[[“Arbuckle” crossed out, “Wichita” written above in a different hand.]]]

The cause of those orders is that Lt. [J.R.] Diamond’s command, who is now at Fort Arbuckle with
two companies, sent in a dispatch stating that a kin council will meet at the Shilo Trading Post on Canadian [River] on the 20th Inst. He had also received news that our Hdqt. of __ was some 30 miles S.W. of __.

We have no fears of a heavy raid, this at the breaking up of the council that no doubt will come in to
steal horses. I want you to keep me posted as to all __ in any __ carries to Buffalo Station [Clay County, Texas] and Capt. [J.B.] Anderson will send them there.

I will send as soon as I get up transportation to move the Tonkaways to Spanish Fort Bend [Montague
Co TX].
