Thank you for the complete credits for Muriel's article! There are also further descriptions of the interesting encounter in WW Averell's book 10 Years in the Saddle,several articles in the Dallas Herald,accounts in Sturgis'and Emorys'books and the reports of Colonel WC Young etc..

Actually my gggf was Joseph Thompson. I am not related to Captain Johnson. However Joe Thompson did serve with Captain Johnson at that time in the Indian Territory(officially in JW Throcmorton's company of Texas State Troops) and later with the Texas Spy Company in Arkansas.
