At Honey Springs, the Ross brothers (descended from Lewis Ross, not John Ross) were involved -- two in blue and three in gray. At the end of the war one each had died of wounds, one each from disease, and only one Confederate survived.

According to one story, the sons of J. S. Murrow, missionary among the Choctaw, chose different sides and never spoke to one another after the war.
