a little family lore on brothers in the late unpleasantness...
my g-g-grandfather, r.w. thompson, moved from clay co., missouri to the kickapoo city area in kansas territory before the war, with many of his extended family members. he was involved in the county seat wars there, and being a missourian, got burned out. he took most of the family, including his mother and father, to the coesfield area, near gainesville, texas, where he enlisted in borland's border regiment. he named the first son that was born in texas "jefferson davis thompson." his brother, george w. thompson, remained in kansas, and named a son of his own "george mclellan thompson." as far as we know, r.w. and george w. never had any more contact with one another even though george w. eventually moved to texas after the war.
