I can't add much in the way of info but I do have a family connection to the 48th. My ancestor Frank Wadlington of Cobb's Battery CSA had an older brother William Wadlington who was a 1st Lt. in company G of the 48th and died during the war. Dyer's Compendium lists that the 48th only lost one officer so I assume that is William. As I believe that most of the members of Cobb's Battery ended up with General HB Lyon near the end of the war it is possible that two or more of the Wadlington boys faced each other from opposite sides. A middle brother, Claiborne, was with the 3rd Kentucky Infantry CSA which I believe also ended the war under the command of General's Lyon and Forrest.
