My gr gr grandfather was with the original 5th Ky.. His postwar records state he joined up with guerillas. He didn't own much and I sometimes wonder why he joined? I don't think it was a slave issue because few had them up in the highlands. I don't know if these troops were paid or not? After the war it must have been hard times for them as I can follow him around and see some name and place of birth modifications in the federal census records. I would like to find more on these guerilla units also.
