Thank you for the additional information. It is very helpful. I have just ordered the service records for G. L. Day using this site. Looking forward to the results. I have seen his name misspelled as Gilson on his son’s death cert. I can see how this could happen with a name like Jilson.

You mentioned his service record was incorrectly indexed as Johnson’s 10th Kentucky Cavalry. I assume this means he was not in that unit? Was the record of capture and parole correct? If so, can you tell me where and when he was captured? Was he held as a POW? If so, where? I know… so many questions. This is all very interesting to me.
