Guerilla Activity in Western Kentucky

Does anyone have information or know a source related to guerilla activity in the area of the Tennessee River around the towns of War or Calloway or Newburgh (now under the waters!) in western Kentucky? There was a guerillas' graveyard for years in Newburgh. The bodies were moved to Haynes Cemetery in the '40s as the Kentucky Dam was being built to form the now Kentucky Lake. Those bodies are still there with small metal markers. These bands apparently crossed the Tenessee from Trigg County into Calloway County. My family legend says that the local residents were so upset with the crossings and raidings that they ambushed them one time and dumped them all into a common grave in Newburgh. I do know that there are graves identified as "Guerilla" in Haynes. But, other than my grandfather's stories, I know nothing more about it.
