Thomas Layton, per the 1850 census, was 16 years old. He was living with his mother, presumably, Amanda, age 42, and brothers David, a physician age 22, and William, 11, as well as sister, Amanda, age 13. There is no father in the household. They were living in District Number 2, Fayette County, Kentucky, and Thomas was listed as a student.
