Re: Native-Americans in the Civil War

Here are the two men I found in my notes. This information comes from the same document, the title of which should be apparent. I thought I recalled having found information on several men who were in a cavalry unit late in the war but could not find a note on them.

Carmaste, Alaise, Pvt., Gunboat "J. A. Cotton." On List dated Dec. 9, 1862, "Descriptive list of soldiers who have deserted from the Confederate States Army." Res., St. Mary Par., La. Complexion, Dark. Hair, Light. Height, 5 ft. 8 in. Age, 23. Eyes, Blue. "An Indian."

Wilson, Charles, Pvt., Gunboat "J. A. Cotton." On List dated Dec. 9, 1862, "Descriptive list of soldiers who have deserted from the Confederate States Army." Occupation, Swamper. Res., St. Mary Par., La. Complexion, Dark. Hair, Black. Height, 5 ft. 10 in. Age, 25. Eyes, Black. "An Indian."
