Re: Scott's Louisiana Cavalry Brigaede

A note on the county designation: In 1865 (prior to 1867) the area where this skirmish actually took place, on the south bank of Sipsey River, was in Pickens County. Pleasant Ridge, a community crossroads about two miles south of Sipsey Mills Bridge, was (and still is) in Greene County, Alabama; in 1865 the county line was about 3/4 miles north of the cross roads. Not coincidentally, the home wherein I grew up is about a mile west of the crossroads and situated on the county line in 1865 (now we are well in Greene County, Sipsey being the county boundry since 1867).

This letter gives further evidence of numbers of troops engaged, as well as the actual location of the skirmish.
