William Watson went on to write a great account of his experiences in the war which are still being published today; 'Life in the confederate army, being the observations and experiences of an alien in the south during the American civil war'
After becoming a civillian again he soon became a blockade runner of which he also wrote a detailed account.
After the war he returned to his native Scotland. His son served, like him as a volunteer, in the Boer war.
If you have any more information on William Watson, as his great, great grandson doing a school project on him I would be very grateful.
