Re: Capt. Louis A. Cormier 6th LA Inf.

Thank you everyone thus far for your patience and assitance.
I do have other questions concerning Capt.Louis Cormier in one of my America's CW magazines dated July 1999 in an article written by Jim Zbick on the night attack for Cemetry Hill on July 2nd he makes inference to a Confederate cavalry officer Harry Gilmore who witnessed a Louisiana color-bearer jump on a Federal gun and wave his flag. He was killed instantly, but his banner was seized by another southerner who sprang upon the gun before he,too, was cut down. A captain seized the colors and mounted the gun, but as he raised the flagstaff, his arm was struck by a mine ball. In Gilmor's continued account states that this same captain dropped his sword and continued to hold the flag not allowing to touch the ground. He continued to cheer his men on amongst the whizzing balls only to be eventually pierced through the lungs. Regretably this account never identifies the Captain by name, however seems to fit with the two enlisted men who fell at the same time Cormier did. Is this the same event ? Is this Cormier's story? If so what battery was this ? Who operated it? And where on the field on Cemetery Hill was it located ?

regards
