Good day - During the CW - there were a number of Legions formed. In Louisiana there was Miles Legion and the Louisiana Legion, which I believe was made up of State Troops. Others include Hampton's Legion from SC.

I believe the initial intent of this military organization, to include infantry, cavalry, and artillery units, was to have a self-contained military force combining all arms and support units associated with an 'army,' is this a correct assumption?

While it appears that Miles Legion did not fight as a self-contained unit during the war, where there other such legion units in other states/armies that did so?? I believe that Hampton's did fight as such at First Manassas, but may have been 'broken up' into its component units during reorganization of the ANV. Am researching this

Thanks for any direction and assistance you can provide
