I have seen reference in a couple of memoirs all in Sheridan's Div.. They mention French Leave.One was my GGGrandfather.I assume from the context it is awol but, with the intention of returning to duty.Is this a nineteenth century term?Was it universal in both armies?Louisianna being french maybe a learned person on this board can help.Thanks.
