George, this is the reference in the interview... GABRIEL FRANCIS BLACKBURN was a soldier in the Confederate War. He entered the war from Marion County, Columbia, Miss. He was in the 14th Louisiana Regiment, Co. F. Captain Mills and Colonel Cage were the officers. He entered the War Nov. 6, 1863.

Something just doesn't add up. The only "Colonel Cage" I can find from Louisiana is the man listed below. There is nobody named "Mills" listed on the rolls of the 26th Louisiana I can find. Company F was raised in Terrebonne Parish. After their surrender at Vicksburg the men began assembling at Pineville in a parole camp in June 1864 and were declared exchanged in August. If he joined this unit in November 1863 he would have been about the only one present for duty. I would contact the webmaster of that website and find out ther source for the interview. It may be a simple typo causing the confusion.

26th Infantry Regiment was organized during the spring of 1862 by Colonel A. De Clouet. Many of the men were recruited in Lafayette, Assumption, and Allen parishes. It was assigned to General Shoup's Brigade, Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, and reported 10 casualties at Chickasaw Bayou and 72 during the siege of Vicksburg. After being exchanged, the unit was attached to A. Thomas' Brigade in the Trans-Mississippi Department and saw light action within the boundaries of Louisiana during the spring of 1865. The field officers were Colonels Alexander De Clouet and Winchester Hall, Lieutenant Colonels Duncan S. Cage and William C. Crow, and Majors W. Bateman and William W. Martin.
