Re: Fort DeRussy & Red River Log Books

I am interested in this Fort. My great-great-grandfather on my mother's side was captured there and made a prisoner by the Union Army. His name was James Foy Peterson and was with Waterhouse's Regiment, later to become Walker's Regiment, the 19th Texas Infantry 3rd Brigade Co. H. I would like to join Friends of Fort DeRussy.
For your information, there is a good chronicle of the life of another soldier who was also captured at Fort DeRussey named John C Porter of the 18th Inantry 1st Brigade Co.H found at
http://www.kwanah.com/txmilmus/porter/jp_001.htm It is long, about 39 pages, but is from his diary during the Red River Campaign and includes a lot of action in Avoyelles and elsewhere in La. Very worthwhile reading.
