Re: Fort DeRussy & Red River Log Books

Steve,
I'm sorry but I don't have any information on James Foy Peterson other than his name on the list of prisoners. There isn't much information available specifically on the 19th Texas, but there is a book that has recently come out that is a compilation of letters and a very interesting diary that was kept by Capt. Harvey Wallace of that company. Wallace was also captured at Fort DeRussy, and his account of prison life in New Orleans is very interesting. I'll have to get back to you on the title and author of the Wallace book. If you read John Porter's papers and Wallace's papers, you'll get a pretty good picture of the capture of Fort DeRussy and prison life afterwards, from both officer and enlisted perspectives.

E-mail me your mailing address, and I'll put you on our mailing list and send you a copy of the last newsletter. A new one should be coming out soon, if I can find the time to put it together. (Scratch "soon", make that "eventually.")
