Camp Moore Status

Folks,
I was able to visit Camp Moore yesterday and here is the latest condition. The Good news - The museum is virtually untouched. No damage to the cemetery, only branches down. Bad news - we have one major tree down along the creek, one large tree down on the maintenance building and three pine trees down on the southern fence line. There are numerous large branches down and the power line to the building has been forcibly pulled off along with the meter pan, etc. All roads to the museum are blocked by fallen trees and only by driving on fields or across downed power lines was I able to get there. Judging by the number of times the power lines were cut down between there and Kentwood, I am going to guess that it may be weeks before we can reopen the doors. I was not able to get in touch with any other of our volunteers at this time to let them know but will keep trying. Most of our volunteers live in the heaviest hit areas of Hammond, Covington, etc. Since it is in such a rural area, I believe it will be quite some time before power is restored and we can reopen. Tangipahoa Parish was a shambles compared to EBR and Livingston. Also, the threat of looting is a concern now. We are not in the Better Homes and Garden district and without an alarm system, I am just going to have to check on the place as I can to make sure all is well. I will keep all concerned posted via this medium with updates. Thanks.
