Hello...I just stumbled on this site while doing some online research, and was glad to see it. I have a number of ancestors who fought for the Confederacy in the War, most of whom were in Georgia and Arkansas units. However, I have been trying to match up name, etc., with one particular one who is listed in Co. H of the 17th Louisiana. On the records I can find online, he is listed as "C F Formby", also, "Fonby or Fornby"...the correct is Formby. What I am trying to do is match all the circumstantial evidence that this is "Columbus Franklin Formby"...would the Military Service records have the full name? I live in Maryland close enough to go to NARA if that would do it....also, since I DO believe this is him, where can I find more information on this unit, and the battles it fought in?
