You might want to also look at the 1860 US Census for St Landry Parish. This will provide additional background on him and his family. This would include number of relatives (mom, dad, sisters, brothers), if he has any wealth, etc. Additionally, the slave roll for St Landry Parish may show if he or his family were slave owners. The State Archives in BR should have the Census on microfilm.
