A relative of mine, Joseph Husselbee, aged 36 left England and his wife and 4 young children and apparently joined the 6th Louisiana Volunteers. He seems to have served with great bravery and was severly wounded 3 times, losing an arm at the Battle of Gettysburg.
His details are in the Roster of the Regiment, but I am interested in why a married man from England should take such a step as he did.
I would grateful for any pointers as to how many people from abroad flocked to the Confederate flag and why.
Appreciate any help in understanding.
Best regards
Graham
