The battery was stationed at Tyler, Texas, when the army of the Trans-Mississippi Department surrendered. It is possible that a few members of the battery were in Arkansas, but I've seen no evidence of that fact. In a very few cases, Confederate and state authorities attempted to pay the soldiers around the time of the surrender, but Confederate money was worthless. Few men seem to have gotten any pay. They may have been issued some rations prior to leaving Tyler. My educated guess is that most of the men would have attempted to get home as a group; this happened with other units. It seems unlikely that they would have gotten any kind of rail or boat transportation. Any soldiers who were in hospital at Tyler would have gone home on their own as soon as they were able to travel.
