Re: Roberts Bayou and Bayou Rapides

Thanks for your email. I have an account of two days of fighting at Roberts Bayou and records from the OR's about Rapides and Roberts Bayous. I "think" Likens' troops were being sent back-forth to face action.

In the ORs and ORNs there is April 26, 1864 when Likens' and Harrison fought gunboats at Montgomery LA, the Likens appears to have returned because May 14, 1864 Gen. Taylor wrote that Likens' Regt was dispatched to the North side of the Red River to re-enforce Harrison. Based on a report from Taylor to Kirby Smith, Harrison's group kept-up a continued fire from Pineville to the Black River. I have also read an account which alludes to this activity written by a member of Likens' Regt but it is short on details .

Do you know if there are any histories for Harrison's group or his regiment? I know the 3rd LA Cav was from SW LA and Likens' had men from SE TX (the same general area)

Sincerely,
William Bozic
