Our family records speak of "Robert" being asked by General Lee to sing to the men around the campfires.
Well, it has been such a long time ago, and "Robert" was pvt. Robert M. Dale, Harrisons 3rd La. Cav. Robert would not have been directly under Lee at any time. The only one our family could have been refering to was "Joseph". Joseph H. Dale was an officer in 1st La. Special Batt. > then St. Pauls Batt. > then 15th La. Inf. all of which were in the Army of Northern Va. directly under Lee. How might someone inquire and to whom.. about after hours casual life around the camps in the Army of Northern Va.?
