Re: 3rd LA Inf - Iuka MS Casualties

Gregg, I agree with your conclusion for Cain/McCain.

As for the remainder of those names from the 3rd Louisiana Infantry, CSA, previously posted, the Compiled Service Records for those who were Killed in Action (KIA) or Died of Wounds (DOW), or listed as Missing (MIA) are:

J R Barton (record confirms DOW 25 Sep 1862 Iuka)
J D Bickham (record confirms KIA 19 Sep 1862 Iuka)
Matthew O Clark (record confirms KIA 19 Sep 1862 Iuka)
Henry M Crew (record confirms DOW 20 Sep 1862 Iuka)
R T Denham (record confirms KIA 19 Sep 1862 Iuka)
J M Flowers died Nov 8 from wounds
M S Hartman MIA (record confirms MIA 19 Sept 1862 Iuka, no record he ever returned)
Henry B Hirsch (record confirms KIA 19 Sep 1862 Iuka)
S J Howell (record confirms DOW 24 Sep 1862 Iuka)
John B Irvin (record confirms KIA 19 Sep 1862 Iuka)
William W Ivey died Oct 30 from wounds
A W McCain (record confirms DOW 20 Sep 1862 Iuka)
James McDonald (record confirms KIA 19 Sep 1862 Iuka)
B L Norwood (record confirms KIA 19 Sep 1862 Iuka)
Joseph B Ramouin (record confirms KIA 19 Sep 1862 Iuka)
S Singleton (record confirms KIA 19 Sep 1862 Iuka)
James Stewat MIA (the record of "James Steward," Pvt, Co B, 3rd LA confirms KIA 19 Sep 1862 Iuka)
Joseph Tauzin (record confirms KIA 19 Sep 1862 Iuka)
B W Whitaker (record confirms DOW 21 Sep 1862 Iuka)

The name "S.Gourrier" claimed as Killed in W.H. Tunnard's original "A Southern Record: History of the Third Reg. Louisiana," pg 354. I can find no records for this surname other than for "Albert Gourrier" Co A, 3rd LA, BUT his records show him discharged in July 1862 before the Battle of Iuka took place.

Tunnard's list also includes a man named "M.S. Hailman" with exactly the same information as the confirmed "M.S. Hartman" leading me to believe this to be a duplicate entry for Hartman.

Additionally, Tunnard included two other names who appear to be only a single man: the typographical error of "B.F. Thelpel" appears to be the real man "B.F. Philpot" a confirmed KIA of 19 Sep 1862 at Iuka of the 3rd LA.

Another MIA of the 3rd LA is "W. Henderson" of Co E who also never seems to have returned from Iuka.
