Re: Frank Offut (Offutt) 2nd LA Cav, Co. A

Don,

Thanks for your input. I have all 5 cards that you mentioned from M320 Roll 12. Based on your information I was able to locate the M347 LA Militia card and download a copy of it.

I also had the 1860 Census information. I have to humbly disagree with your conclusion that Frank is a son of William, and his assumed deceased by 1860 wife Eliza (Posey) Offutt. I have located William Offutt in the 1850 Federal Census of St. Landry Parish in film M432 Roll 240 on Pg 103. Based on Frank's age in 1860, he should show as an 11 year old child in 1850. However in the 1850 Census in the household of William Offutt, Elisa, Constance, Lucy, what appears to possibly be Alpheda (A female age 6), Celeste and John. No child named William and no child named Frank. I have located an entry in the 1850 Census M432 in the St. Charles College listing for St. Landry Parish for a William Offutt age 12, as well as one other male Offutt whose first name could be Frank, but is not clear. However this wouldn't establish parentage either.

So far I have as yet been unable to locate any obituaries that would tie Frank to anyone. I would like to learn more. There is another Offutt supposedly in the 1850 Census in East Feliciana Parish, but Family Search doens't have the image for the family so I am unable to learn whether there is a Frank in that family group.

Thanks for your assistance

Dave O.
