Mounted Infantry, Part Deux

Continuing to do research on Mounted Infantry from Louisiana and came across this newspaper article:

Forgery --Edwin Marks, of the Louisiana mounted infantry, was arrested yesterday, charged with committing a forgery, and locked up in Castle Thunder. From The Daily Dispatch: July 27, 1864. Richmond Dispatch. 2 pages. by Cowardin & Hammersley. Richmond. July 27, 1864.

I have found references to Mounted Infantry Units in the general Louisiana area, but were troops in the ANV 'mounted?' Or, perhaps Mr Marks 'lied' about the unit he was in. I think he lied, but hopefully smarter minds than mine can give a better answer.
