Edwin Marks, an Accountant, first served in the 1st Louisiana Infantry, no mention is made in the literature I find that identifies it as having been mounted.

However, by the time of his arrest, he was assigned to Captain Green's Louisiana Artillery Battery. For some reason, he chose to identify his unit incorrectly.

On at least two occasions he made application for a position in the Confederate Treasury Department.

* This company was organized in April, 1861, as Company B, 1st (Nelligan's) Regiment Louisiana Volunteers. It was detached from that regiment and assigned to duty as an Independent Field Artillery Company July 25, 1861, and subsequently became Capt. Green's Company (Louisiana Guard Artillery)

Gen Grivot for 12 months, mustered April 30, 1862 for 2 years. Bounty due $50, promoted Corporal, n.d., taken prisoner in engagement of 7th November 1863 at Rappahannock Station, sent to Point Lookout, Maryland prison camp, paroled and exchanged March 16, 1864, wounded on 28th October, 1864 and sent to Lousiana Hospital, Richmond, Va., furloughed by Medical Board for 60 days, November 10, paroled at Charlotte, N. C., May 3, 1865

** This company was organized in April, 1861 as Company B, 1st Regiment Louisiana Volunteers. It was detached from that regiment and assigned to duty as an Independent Field Artillery Company July 25, 1861, and subsequently became Capt. Green's Company Louisiana Guard Artillery. It appears to have served in Saunders', Courtney's, Jones' and Start's Battalions of Artillery. These batteries from various States which subsequently became independent commands.
