Manning/Lay/Ring -- 6th LA

I have been researching the Violett Guards of the 6th LA for nearly a year, and I have had great success in learning a significant amount about the company, largely due to the help of so many kind fellow researchers on this board. (Tip of the hat!) I was wondering if any of you could point me in the right direction to find out a little more about three of its officers. One is Wm. H. Manning, who was the second captain of the company (and later a regimental officer for the 6th LA). I just can't seem to find out anything about him except for his military service and a very little about his service in the Irad Ferry Vol. Fire Co. of New Orleans. Can't find his grave, etc. (though he may be buried in NY). The same is true for Louis Lay, the first captain of the company and also later a 6th LA regimental officer. (I do know that Lay later refugeed to Cuba and opened an important hotel and that his son was involved in a revolt against the Spanish in Cuba just before the Spanish-American War.) I would at least like to visit each of these men's graves, if possible, to pay my respects. Finally, I would really like to know more about George P. Ring, the final captain of the company, beyond his military record. I suspect that Ring is buried in Montgomery, but I haven't been able to locate his grave. Thanks for any info at all here relating to these men, especially their gravesites. -- Jim H.
