Kavanaugh's Company, 9th Regiment Louisiana Volunteers,* enlisted July 7, 1861 at Camp Moore, La., for 12 months, re-enlisted for the war at Camp Carondelet, February 6, 1862, listed as sick in General Hospital No 12, Richmond, Va. October 24, 1862, returned to duty November 1, transferred to Company F (De Soto Blues) temporarily October 31, 1864, present at assault on enemies lines on Saturday, 25 March, 1865, paroled at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, April 10, 1865, description on enlistment: Single 21 year old Farmer, born in Alabama, resident of Vienna, La., description on parole: age 24, resident of Monroe City, La., blue eyes, dark hair, florid complexion, 5' 10"

His file contains correspondence between the Adjutant General, War Department with the Louisiana State Board of Pension Commissioners dated December 14, 1910. Note, this would signifiy either he, or his widow filed for Confederate pension. These records may also be obtained as noted above.

* This company subsequently became Company K, 9th Regiment Louisiana Infantry
