If you're interested in World War II, there is a U. S. Navy Fletcher Class, 2100 ton Destroyer, the Isaac Kidd, on the Baton Rouge water front, restored to it's original condition.

Provides a glimpse into the conditions in which men lived in those days.

An interesting feature of this class of destroyers is the lack of an internal passageway aft. Thus, men returning to their bearthing spaces aft, from the mess hall located below the bridge structure, had to transition aft on the weather decks, rather dangerous in high seas.

We had an Ensign on my ship swept away from mid-ships and fortunately deposited on the fan tail, suffering a broken knee. One lucky fellow.

These "small boys" rocked and rolled wildly resulting in fighting for survial 24-7. Even had to strap ourselves into our bunks.
