Re: Lost Battle Reports of Mansfield

Steve,

Did you ever get a copy of the paper in Military History of the West of "Lost Battle Reports of Horace Randal and Joseph L. Brent? I have a xerox copy (with some of my comments on it) and a brand new printer scanner that I might be able to get to work. My paper is eight full pages/ two article pages to a page. The pictures in my copy are not very good, however.

I have been to Ft. DeRussy twice, and I think I have driven by your home while tracing Bank's Red River Campaign. I swear, I think I saw A.J. Smith's boys marching by, northbound and then southbound.

Ft. DeRussy inspired me to look at Ft. McCulloch in Indian Territory. They look remarkably alike. I would like to hear what you folks in Louisiana are doing with your new property at Ft. DeRussy. How about rebuilding the naval battery out in the field that blasted the Indianola (as I recall) steaming up Red River in 1863. It is pretty evident to me where the battery was located, right in the middle of the new property. Nice acquisition.
