Has a famous Southern preacher stated " An eye for an eye makes everyone blind". Violence has we have seen can very easily begat more of the same. Yes the Lawrence raid was caused in major part by the collapse of the Kansas City jaill. Nonetheless killing young boys which was not supported by all of the raiders in Lawrence merely brought not only 80 or so dead bushwackers but order #11. It also gave the Kansas troops in Mo more motivation to do there duty be it good or bad. What is ironic is that there is a major possibillity that in 1900 the sons and grandsons of the Bushwackers and Jayhawkers were fighting side by side in the USV against Philipino guerrillas . Americans are good at reconciling I hope we can continue to do in the future.
